I started working on the Goblin Mode booklet, I should have started on the Dirty Deeds booklet but I was more inspired to work with Goblins (surprise surprise). Leigh is done with Dirty Deeds & initial playtesting will happen soon!

Hope this looks good to you, I'm stoked!

Wow! Thanks again for the overwhelming support on this Kickstarter! We're taking a little break to rest and get things organized before we launch the Backerkit Pledge Manager. But expect that in early September!

Thanks to everyone for making this our most successful Kickstarter yet! This has been an amazing ride of Go! Go! Go! energy that we really appreciate. We are stoked to do the nuts & bolts on these box sets & really bring something spectacular to your table!

It feels great to expand again after the setbacks of Sean's stroke & the global lockdown. We're stoked that you're along for the ride. I'm glad we take tomorrow off!

THE RULESMONGER WRITES - PART THREE: MOON MADNESS
5 months ago – Thu, Aug 15, 2024 at 01:25:29 PM

Having covered “Dirty Deeds” and “Goblin Mode”, let’s look at the final box, Moon Madness . As mentioned before, Moon Madness acts as a Prequel to Hand of Doom, taking place before the Würstreich was menaced by the Hand of Doom.

Prequels are tricky beasts – just ask George Lucas and Ridley Scott to name but two (favorite prequels in the comments below if you have them!).  However, we are keen to make this campaign work as both its own thing (so you can call it a day when you have navigated your way to its conclusion) and something that can have an impact on the Hand of Doom campaign should you choose to follow on from the end of Moon Madness – this might be as little as having the Moon as a place where your adventurers might hang out (astrally or physically!) or where the Moon’s influence makes the Borderlands twice as crazy, all depending on how successfully you complete the Moon Madness campaign.

Dirty Deeds introduces another mechanic with the Deeds & Factions – Goblin Mode adds a whole new threat to power in its campaign, as well as the new class of Goblin Adventurer.   Moon Madness goes one step further & adds a whole new map to explore, if you can work out how to travel there… and back!

As with Goblin Mode, being set outside of the Hand of Doom campaign means you will face new threats & a new timer to keep you on your toes. Goblin Mode replaces the Doom card deck with a War! Deck, but the menace of the moon is a more subtle affair, working its magic on the populace in ways that will make the Würstreich even more chaotic than usual!

Similarly, while the Goblins present a clear and present danger in Goblin Mode, things aren’t so clear cut in Moon Madness! You’ll be caught between the competing pull of Merchants of Haus Patchesitzen & the Lunar Cult that runs rampant through the Gütter farmers who work for the Haus. By investigating the Cult's activities, the truth will be revealed to you layer by layer, but the ultimate truth can only be revealed by travelling to the Moon itself.  Perhaps only those touched by the Moon will be able to unravel its mysteries,

The new Moon map will act like an entirely new Region, though accessing it will not be as simple as Force Marching from one location to another!  With a new Region comes new Region specific monsters and Region specific Encounters.  Even better for light fingered adventurers will be the sweet, sweet Moon Loot… Having read the Lore Sean has for the Moon, I can only sit here and cackle at the insanity that this Region is made of – or perhaps more accurately, the Lunacy….

To capture the caprice of the Moons baleful influence, it will move through phases, creating different effects both on the Borderlands and on the Moon. We don’t want to make keeping track of the Moon’s phase another separate chore (Dungeonquest players, how often have you forget to move the sun track, or forgot if you forgot?) so we’re working on a way to make this a natural part of the Danger Phase – the Rulesmonger who just heaps unnecessary clerical tasks on the player is no Rulesmonger I recognize!

What will the Moon bring to the Borderlands? The clue is in the title!

  • SEAN SEZ: Huge respect if you can tell me where the title "Moon Madness" is from.
